Ski & Snowboard Boot Fitting in Portland and Freeport, Maine

Boots decide how your whole day on the mountain feels.
Our expert staff measure, fit and adjust so you get comfort and control from the first run. Swing on in anytime, no appointment needed.

Why a Proper Fitting Matters

Your boots are the link between your body and your skis or board. When they fit well, you get better control, warmer feet and more energy for the last run of the day. When they don't, you get cold toes, sore arches and a long afternoon in the lodge.

Shoe size is only a starting point. Foot length, width, volume, arch shape and calf size all change which boot works for you. Our staff fit skiers and snowboarders of every level, from first-timers to families outfitting growing kids to riders who spend every weekend at the hill.

Bring to Your Fitting

  • The socks you ski or ride in
  • Your current boots, if you have them
  • Any footbeds or orthotics you use
  • Notes on where your feet hurt or go numb

What Happens During Your Fitting

Allow about an hour for new boots. We'd rather get it right than rush you out the door.

Talk

We ask how and where you ski or ride, how often, and what has bothered you in past boots.

Measure

We check the length, width and shape of both feet. Feet are rarely identical, so we look at each one.

Try

You try a few boots chosen for your foot and ability, then stand, flex and walk in them so we can see how they really fit.

Adjust

We fine-tune the fit so you leave comfortable, with the boot supporting you where it should.

What We Fit

Alpine Ski Boots

Downhill boots for beginners through advanced skiers, in men's, women's and kids' sizes.

Snowboard Boots

Boots matched to your riding style and your bindings, with attention to heel hold and toe room.

Kids' Boots

Growing feet need frequent checks. Ask about our kids trade-in program and our kids ski lease.

Comfort Adjustments

If a boot you own pinches or presses, bring it in and we'll see what can be done.

Signs Your Boots Need Attention

  • Your toes go numb or cramp
  • Your heel lifts when you flex forward
  • You get shin bang or sore calves
  • You have pressure spots on your ankles or instep
  • Your feet are cold even in good socks
  • Your boots are packed out and feel loose
  • You have outgrown your child's boots
  • You're buying your first pair and want to get it right

Boot Fitting Questions

How long does a ski boot fitting take?

Plan on about an hour for a new pair of boots so we can measure, try several models and make adjustments without rushing. Quick tweaks to boots you already own are usually shorter.

Do I need an appointment for boot fitting?

No appointment is needed. Walk into either store during open hours and one of our staff will get you started. Weekends and the first snowfall rush are our busiest times, so a weekday visit usually means a shorter wait.

What should I bring to my fitting?

Bring the socks you plan to ski or ride in, any current boots, and any footbeds or orthotics you use. Thin, snug ski socks work best. Thick cotton socks hide fit problems.

Should my ski boots feel tight?

A good ski boot feels snug and secure all around the foot, with no sharp pressure points and no heel lift. Toes should brush the front when you stand upright and pull back slightly as you flex your knees forward.

Is boot fitting different for snowboard boots?

Yes. Snowboard boots are softer and fit a little differently, but heel hold, toe room and pressure points still matter. We fit both, and we check the boot with your bindings in mind.
